SEL Studies in English Literature 1500-1900 Invites Applications for Diana Hobby Fellowships

Applicants must be enrolled in the Rice English Department graduate program. We especially welcome applications for academic-year fellowships (fall-spring semesters) from students who will have completed their 5th year in the graduate program. Applicants should have editorial experience with literary publications either at Rice or elsewhere. They should be meticulous and enjoy doing research and proofreading. They will work with all members of the SEL staff on preparing accepted essays for
publication, processing books for review, and sending offprints to publishers. They will learn protocols of copyediting, The Chicago Manual of Style, library research techniques, and effective procedures for submitting articles to journals. Familiarity with Microsoft Word is required; advanced computer skills with some web page experience would be desirable.
A one-page letter stating the applicant’s background, reasons for applying, and commitment to the duration of the fellowship should be delivered to Dr. Logan D. Browning’s mailbox in SEL’s office in Fondren Library 407 (MS 46). Please be sure to include full name, current physical address, phone, and email. We encourage applicants to tell us if they require a full fellowship or if they would accept a partial fellowship with fewer hours. Applications will be received up to and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday 24 March 2017. Interviews will be held in April and decisions will be made no later than the end of the month.
